Judge OK's Hallucinogens in Church

Oregon Church Can Brew Hallucinogenic Tea

A judge granted permission to a church in Oregon to brew hallucinogenic tea during services. The Church of the Holy Light of the Queen in Ashland, Oregon uses "Daime" tea for sacramental reasons. The church infuses old school Christian beliefs with indigenous beliefs from Brazil, which would explain the odd choice in beverages. The church argued that the tea is a necessary component for their members to have a "direct experience with Jesus". The judges injunction bans the federal government from interfering or penalizing the church for using the tea. The tea is made from the ayahuasca plant and contains small traces of dimethyltryptamine or DMT, which is the chemical that causes the hallucinations.
